Since having risen to fame, Mercearia de Mok Yi Kei has been passed on to the third-generation successors, who are Mr. Mok, the founder’s son, and Zhi, the founder’s daughter-in-law. It is famous for its Agar Jelly, Musang King Durian Ice Cream and Serradura, which are must-tries for many visitors to Macao.
Its origin can be traced to the 1920s, when the town centre of Taipa was in the vicinity of today’s Rua do Cunha and Rua do Regedor. All kinds of hawker stalls packed the area, and one of them was the predecessor of Mok Yi Kei, which was run by Zhi’s mother-in-law.
