Among Macao’s gourmet food, Tat Veng’s Shark’s Fin Noodle Soup is the one that is never going to be missed! Estabelecimento de Comidas (Sopa de Fitas e Cafe) Tat Veng U Chi Tong Min is already sixteen years old! Located at the ground floor of Chun Fok Village at 301 Rua do Regedor, Macao, this noodle eatery is a pioneer in introducing genuine shark’s fin noodle soup to Macao.
Its Shark’s Fin Noodle Soup and Noodles Mixed with Shark’s Fin are priced below 100 but greatly satisfactory. The combination between noodles and a soup made of pork bones, matured chicken, Jinhua ham, peppercorns and aged dried mandarin peels tastes just like a casserole of braised shark’s fin with chicken.
Home specialty dishes like Shark’s Fin Balls, Pan-Seared Chilli Pepper, Pan-Fried Mud Carp Cake with Lettuce and Local Pork Chop Bun are also customers’ favourites. The eatery has been touted by celebrities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, as well as local and overseas gourmet connoisseurs, including Hong Kong’s celebrity chef Hugo Leung Man-To, who made a number of visits in its early years of business. He also introduced the eatery in his TV show Gourmet Secret Agent, which was broadcasted on Hong Kong’s TVB.
The owner was once in the trade of wholesaling processed shark’s fin and marine products to large Chinese restaurants. As the restaurants were looking for shark’s fins in whole large pieces, which were untouchably expensive, there were plenty of small shark’s fin pieces and remainder left over. In the millennial years, the owner suddenly came up with an innovative idea of introducing Noodles Mixed with Shark’s Fin, a reinvention of Rice Mixed with Shark’s Fin, which became popular in the 1980s. This has lifted the Chinese noodle culture to a higher level and popularized the pricey and luxurious shark’s fins, while delivering a quality no inferior to that offered in large restaurants.
