Main Features:
The name Bitter Sweet is originally the name of a chocolate. As it carries the meaning of “sweetness comes after bitterness”, the owner, Mr. De Pina, took it as the name of the shop to encourage himself.
To accommodate the taste preferences of different customers and the culinary habits of different regions, Mr. De Pina will from time to time improve the recipes and experiment again and again the combination of food ingredients with a view to creating local Macanese snacks that appeal to the preferences of the general public. The signature Serradura is what a lot of Japanese visitors paid visits for. The secret is making a good cream, paying attention to the temperature and using a special skill to blend the ingredients. With every step of process being handmade, the finished product is not overly sweet or greasy, and the texture of the cake is as chilly and creamy as ice cream. Highly acclaimed items also include the aromatic, smooth and slightly bitter Tiramisu, the milky fresh cheese and the sweet and sour Mango Pudding.
In addition to desserts, several Western bread items have now been launched: Italian Tomato Bread; Garlic Bread; Spicy Sardine Bun; Beef Bun; …whether for the bread or the fillings, Bitter Sweet is dedicated to reliving the old local flavour.
The spicy sardine filling consists of the red-canned Porthos sardines, which will be mashed before being added with onions and a little bit of spicy curry sauce; The garlic sauce of Garlic Bread is made of insistently hand-minced garlic, which will be slow-cooked with butter before being applied to the bread; The corned beef filling also needs the seasoning of the stir-fried garlic mince, as well as onions and shallots. It is the sophisticated processes and dedication that make the bread items exceptionally savoury.
Accompanying the bread items there are handmade coffees made by Bitter Sweet’s own with coffee powder made of coffee beans selected from Brazil, Columbia and Italy according to different weathers and seasons. The brewed coffees are alluringly aromatic and carry a subtle sweetness. Therefore, when you visit Rua do Cunha, think about sitting down to enjoy the dedicated works of Bitter Sweet.
