Overview:                                                                            

Zhongshan is located in the central southern part of the Pearl River Delta (PRD), bordering Guangzhou in the north and adjacent to Zhuhai and Macao. Being a major transport node in the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary, Zhongshan has a high urban greening rate and is one of the greenest and cleanest cities in the country. It is estimated that the number of overseas Chinese and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents of Zhongshan origin is over 800 thousand.

The Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area proposes to support Zhongshan to take forward innovation in biomedical technologies. After years of development, biomedicine, modern Chinese medicine, medical equipment and other health and medical sectors in Zhongshan have been increasingly matured.

Secondary sector is Zhongshan’s major economic contributor. Traditional competitive industries include household appliance manufacturing, lighting, furniture, hardware, locks and gas appliances, among others. Taking the lighting industry as an example, it has a complete upstream and downstream industry chain and has substantial influence nationally and even globally.

In the future, Zhongshan will promote the development of industries toward the higher end, step up developing a modern industrial system, advance the high-quality development of manufacturing industry, develop itself into a development hub of modern service sector, accelerate the development of digital economy, focus on strengthening the core pilot industries of digital economy, strive to develop artificial intelligence pharmaceutical R&D and precision medicine industries, as well as promote the integration of advance manufacturing and modern services sectors..
