Zhuhai

Focus of Development:

To develop itself into a national innovation city, to establish itself as a technology and innovation hub of the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary, a major node city along the Guangzhou-Zhuhai-Macao innovation and technology corridor and an innovation hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Overview:

Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province, one of the core cities of the Pearl River Delta (PRD), and a major scenic tourism city on the south-eastern coast. Located in the southwest of the Pearl River Estuary in Guangdong Province and bordering Macao, Zhuhai has over 100 islands, thus dubbed as a “City of A Hundred Islands”. It has now become a core city of the PRD with full-fledged economic and social development, and a major scenic tourism city on the south-eastern coast. The city has been named a National Garden City, China’s Outstanding Tourism City, China’s Happiest City, and ranked as China’s most liveable city in recent years.

The modern industrial structure of Zhuhai, featured with “3H1C” (high-end services sector, high-end manufacturing sector, high and new technology sector and characteristic marine economic and eco-agricultural sector), is injecting powerful impetus and infinite vitality for the new emergence and re-flourishment of the city.

Core sectors of Zhuhai’s industry currently include electronic information, biomedicine, household appliances, power and energy, petrochemicals and precision mechanics. Zhuhai is striving to establish itself as an innovation-driven city and stepping up to form a modern industrial structure which has smart manufacturing as the core and comprises high-end manufacturing, high and new technology, marine economic and eco-agricultural sectors.

The Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area supports Hengqin, Zhuhai in providing a pivot for Macao’s development of cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) industries, and facilitating the convenient entry of products from Portuguese-speaking countries into the Mainland market via Macao. Meanwhile, the State Council has agreed to set up a CBEC integrated pilot zone in Zhuhai with a view to creating favourable conditions for the development of CBEC in Zhuhai.
