The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and the Macao SAR Government signed the Framework Agreement on Cooperation between the Macao SAR Government and CAST in 2018. This led to the establishment of the Committee on Science and Technology Exchange and Cooperation between CAST and the Macao SAR Government, which aims to support the development of science and technology in Macao and promote exchanges between the Mainland and Macao in science popularization, innovation and entrepreneurship, talent development, and academic research.

In March 2026, the Committee held its 7th annual meeting in Macao. During the meeting, both sides reviewed and finalized the updated list of committee members, summarized the work progress of 2025, and deliberated and adopted the key work plans for 2026 and 2027.

Mainland representatives attending the meeting included relevant officials from CAST’s Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office, Organization and Personnel Department, Publicity and Culture Department, Science and Technology Innovation Department, Science and Technology Popularization Department, National Academy of Innovation Strategy, China Science and Technology Museum, Service Center for Enterprise Innovation, Center for Professional Training and Services, as well as from the Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology in China and the China Association of Children's Science Instructors. 

Participants from the Macao side included representatives from the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute, the Science and Technology Development Fund, the Education and Youth Development Bureau, the University of Macau, the Macau University of Science and Technology, the Association for Promotion of Science & Technology of Macau, and the Macao Science Center. Representatives from the Education and Youth Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region also attended as observers.
